The Study on the Rate of Discrepancy to Kanagawa Phenomenon Test for Vibrio parahaemolyticus

Abstract
The Kanagawa phenomenon tests for Vibrio parahaemolyticus used were the Wagatsuma's medium test, modified Elek test and reversed passive immune hemagglutination(RPHA) test. A total of 40 strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolated from patients,
were
used as test strains. Results were compared with the rate of discrepancy among each other test, and the following results were obtained.
1. The tested strains were divided into 34 positive (85%), 3 negative (7.5%) and 3 questionable (7.5%) by the Wagatsuma's medium test, and 37 positive (92.5%), 2 negative (5%) and 1 questionable (2.5%) by the modified Elek test, while the
questionable
strains and negative strains in the Wagatsuma's medium test and modified Elek test were 100% positive in RPHA test.
2. Among Kanagawa phenomenon test for Vibrio parahaemolyticus used, RPHA test was the best sensitive specific, and the modified Elek test was most technical simplicity.
3. By these results in the experiment, author proposed following a test scheme that the first test was subjected to the Wagatsuma's medium test and finally confirmed by the RPHA test is promising as a prastical methods for the Kanagawa
phenomenon
test.
